CANARIES SMACK TWO HOMERS TO CLAIM SERIES IN GARY
Gary, IN – The Sioux Falls Canaries never trailed Sunday afternoon, topping Gary SouthShore 8-2 in the rubber match of a three-game series.
Trevor Achenbach opened the scoring with an RBI fielder’s choice in the top of the second inning before the RailCats tied things up with an RBI single in the third.
The Canaries scored four times in the fourth inning to take the lead for good. Michael Curialle blasted a two-run homerun, Achenbach followed with an RBI triple and Joe Vos added a run-scoring single. Gary SouthShore got a run back in the home half with an RBI double but would be held without a hit the rest of the way.
Scott Combs doubled off the left field wall in the sixth inning to bring in Anthony Hall and Mike Hart crushed a two-run homer in the top of the eighth to cap the scoring.
Nicholas Arbach allowed two runs on three hits over five innings while the Sioux Falls bullpen turned in four scoreless and hitless frames. Grady Mee finished with three hits while Vos and Hall each added two. The Birds (46-47) close the regular season with a seven-game homestand beginning Tuesday night at 6:35pm.
