Gearing Dazzles as Birds Drop Series Finale
Sioux Falls, SD – Chase Gearing turned in a strong start Thursday night, allowing a run over seven innings while striking out five but Lake Country scored two runs late to top the Canaries 3-1 at the Bird Cage.
Sioux Falls opened the scoring in the first inning with a one-out RBI single from Josh Rehwaldt. The DockHounds doubled to start the top of the fourth and tied things up with a base hit.
The 1-1 score held until the eighth inning when Lake Country scored a run on a wild pitch to take the lead for good. The DockHounds added an unearned run in the ninth, singling to left field after a two-base fielding error.
The Birds brought the winning run to the plate in the bottom half but couldn’t bridge the gap.
Anthony Sharkas finished with three of the team’s eight hits while Mike Hart reached base four times. The Canaries (5-2) open a three-game series with Chicago Friday at 7:05pm.
