HOT START NOT ENOUGH FOR CANARIES IN ROADTRIP OPENER

Winnipeg, MB – The Sioux Falls Canaries jumped out to an early lead only to see Winnipeg rip off six unanswered runs to claim a 6-3 victory Monday night at Blue Cross Park.

Anthony Sharkas doubled with one out in the top of the first inning and scored on a base hit from Jabari Henry.

Chris Kwitzer doubled the lead with an RBI single in the top of the second and Sharkas would add a sacrifice fly to put Sioux Falls in front 3-0 after two.

The Goldeyes fought back with an RBI double in the fifth inning and a run-scoring single in the sixth to get within 3-2. Winnipeg tied the game on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh before taking the lead moments later on a three-run homerun.

The Birds’ offense was limited to one hit the rest of the way as the Canaries (10-7) drop their second consecutive game. Josh Rehwaldt led the team with two hits while Derek Craft tossed six strong innings, allowing two runs on five hits. The two teams resume their series Tuesday at 6:30pm.
